چکیده

This paper presents a computer vision algorithm that segregates spurious optical flow artifacts to detect a moving object. The algorithm consists of six steps. First, the pixels in each image are shifted to compensate for camera rotation. Second, the images are smoothed with a spatio–temporal Gaussian filter. Third, the optical flow is computed with a gradient–based technique. Fourth, optical flow vectors with small magnitudes are discarded. Fifth, vectors with similar locations, magnitudes, and directions are clustered together using a spatial consistency test. Sixth, similar optical flow vectors are extended temporally to make predictions about future optical flow locations, magnitudes, and directions in subsequent frames. The actual optical flow vectors that are consistent with those predictions are associated with a moving object. This algorithm was tested on images obtained with a videocamera mounted below the nose of a Boeing 737. The camera recorded two sequences containing a second flying aircraft. The algorithm detected the aircraft in 82% of the frames from the first sequence and 78% of the frames from the second sequence. In each sequence, the false alarm rate was zero. These results illustrate the effectiveness of using a comprehensive predictive technique when detecting moving objects.

Traffic Scene Analysis using Hierarchical Sparse Topical Coding

Analyzing motion patterns in traffic videos can be exploited directly to generate high-level descriptions of the video contents. Such descriptions may further be employed in different traffic applications such as traffic phase detection and abnormal event detection. One of the most recent and successful unsupervised methods for complex traffic scene analysis is based on topic models. In this pa...

Computation Optical Flow Using Pipeline Architecture

Accurate estimation of motion from time-varying imagery has been a popular problem in vision studies, This information can be used in segmentation, 3D motion and shape recovery, target tracking, and other problems in scene analysis and interpretation. We have presented a dynamic image model for estimating image motion from image sequences, and have shown how the solution can be obtained from a ...

Fuzzy control for obstacle detection in stereo video sequences

One of the most important problems in 3D tracking is the occlusion effect produced by obstacles. To solve this problem, we have developed a tracking system based on optical flow and stereo vision, combinedwith adaptive filters to predict the expected 3D velocities of objects. The critical point of the system is the coupling between tracking and predictive algorithms. We propose the use of a fuz...

Adaptive Spectral Separation Two Layer Coding with Error Concealment for Cell Loss Resilience

This paper addresses the issue of cell loss and its consequent effect on video quality in a packet video system, and examines possible compensative measures. In the system's enconder, adaptive spectral separation is used to develop a two-layer coding scheme comprising a high priority layer to carry essential video data and a low priority layer with data to enhance the video image. A two-step er...

A Flow-Based Approach to Vehicle Detection and Background Mosaicking in Airborne Video

We address the detection of vehicles in a video stream obtained from a moving airborne platform. Our approach is based on robust optical flow algorithm applied on stabilized frames. Stabilization of the frames compensates for gross affine background motion prior to running robust optical flow to compute dense residual flow. Based on the flow and the previous background appearance model, the new...
